FAQs

  • Are there certain things that all home inspection reports should include?

The International Association of licensed and certified Home Inspectors (InterNACHI) publishes a Standards of Practice under New York State Licensing and Certifications that outlines what you should expect to be covered in your home inspection report

  • What will a home inspection cost?

The fee for a home will vary depending on several factors, such as the house's size, age, and any optional services requested, such as septic inspection or radon testing.  If cost is an issue, consider the peace of mind you will feel knowing about any potential issues with your home before heading to the closing table.

  • Are there any specific qualifications I should look for when hiring a home inspector?

You will want to be sure your home inspector has had the proper training, is properly licensed, and has experience in home inspections.  It is also a good idea to take a look at professional affiliations.  It is not that difficult to become a home inspector, so training and experience are important.  For that reason, the lowest-priced inspection is not necessarily a bargain.

HVHI inspectors are New York state licensed, members of  InterNACHI, and bring years of experience in the construction industry.

Also, make sure the inspector is insured with liability, E&O and workman's compenstation insurance

  • At what point do I call a home inspector?

A home inspector is typically contacted after the contract or purchase agreement has been signed.  However, if you plan on selling your home in the not-so-distant future, a home inspection can be a great tool for getting your property ready to go on the market.

  • Do I have to be there?

No, you are not required to be present for your home inspection, but it is highly recommended. HVHI prides itself on educating our clients, so we love nothing more than walking through a home with the owners or potential buyers so that we can show them any areas of concern and talk through the options of correcting the issues as well as the timing and potential costs involved in the repairs.

  • I’m avoiding calling a home inspector because I am afraid they will reveal potential issues. What do I do?

Call.  In this case, knowledge is power because all problems are ultimately fixable.  It is important to remember that no house is perfect. If problems are uncovered, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t buy the house; it just provides you with knowledge so that you can purchase or sell a home knowing what to expect.

  • Why should I get a home inspection in Newburgh, NY?

A home inspection is essential to identify potential issues with a property before buying or selling. It helps ensure that you are making a sound investment by revealing hidden problems, including structural, electrical, and plumbing concerns.

  • How long does a home inspection take in Newburgh, NY?

Typically, a home inspection takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the size and condition of the property. After the inspection, you will receive a detailed report with findings and recommendations.

  • What is included in a general home inspection from Hudson Valley Home Inspections LLC?

Our general home inspection covers major systems such as the foundation, roof, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components. We also inspect windows, doors, insulation, and other essential features to ensure the home is safe and sound.

  • Do you offer radon testing as part of your home inspection services?

Yes, we provide radon testing as part of our home inspection services. Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that can pose serious health risks, so it’s essential to check for its presence, especially in New York’s Hudson Valley region.

  • How do I prepare for a home inspection?

To prepare for a home inspection, ensure all areas of the home are accessible, including attics, basements, and crawl spaces. Clear away any clutter that may obstruct the inspector’s view and be present to ask any questions during the inspection.
